In partnership with more than 140 countries worldwide, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers unparalleled opportunities in all academic disciplines to passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals from all backgrounds. Program participants pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach English abroad. This year’s recipient of the Fulbright Award for the UK is UMBC’s Kaitlyn Keaton.
” I won the Fulbright Award for the United Kingdom, specifically the Fulbright Award for Newcastle University in England to earn my master’s degree in cyber security. I am the first UMBC student to win a Fulbright Award to the UK. I am so excited for this opportunity to learn in a new country and to exchange different ideas and perspectives. This is an exciting opportunity to not only complete a master’s degree in cyber security but to learn about a different culture as well. During my time in Newcastle, I plan to do research in the field of smart buildings and smart infrastructure. Upon completion of my masters in September 2023, I plan to come back to the US and work in the government sector. I hope to be able to bring what I learn from the UK and Newcastle University back to the US in my future career. I’m extremely grateful for all my great professors at UMBC who have prepared me for this opportunity and to Dr. Brian Souders for helping me through the application process.“
